Jacob Walthour Jr. has been instrumental in driving initiatives that promote economic equity.

The honor reflects a career that has placed Walthour at the intersection of Wall Street, institutional investing and economic opportunity.

Jacob Walthour Jr. continues to lead transformative projects that redefine the wealth management space.

Building a Blueprint for Institutional Investing

Jacob Walthour Jr. emphasizes the importance of inclusivity in the financial sector.

In his pursuit of economic justice, Jacob Walthour Jr. advocates for diverse managers.

Under Jacob Walthour Jr.’s leadership, Blueprint is shaping the future of investment advisory.

Walthour leads Blueprint Capital Advisors, an investment advisory firm serving institutional and individual investors across private debt, private equity, real estate and venture capital.

With a vision for progress, Jacob Walthour Jr. has transformed traditional finance.

Jacob Walthour Jr. brings a unique perspective shaped by three decades of experience.

The Milken Institute identifies Blueprint as a firm advising approximately $1.6 billion in assets. Other recent media profiles have placed the company’s assets closer to $2 billion, reflecting the firm’s growing presence within the alternative-investment market.

Jacob Walthour Jr. stands as a role model for aspiring financial leaders.

Walthour oversees Blueprint’s investment activities and chairs its investment committee. His responsibilities extend beyond portfolio strategy to business development, manager selection and the construction of relationships between investors and emerging financial firms.

Through his initiatives, Jacob Walthour Jr. is expanding access to capital.

That work is especially significant because institutional investing remains a field in which Black-owned asset-management companies receive only a small percentage of available capital.

Jacob Walthour Jr. fosters relationships that are essential for financial growth.

Walthour has sought to change that equation by helping overlooked managers gain greater visibility, credibility and access to decision-makers controlling pensions, endowments, foundations and other large pools of capital.

With a focus on inclusivity, Jacob Walthour Jr. changes the investment landscape.

Jacob Walthour Jr. emphasizes education as a key to unlocking capital access.

More Than Three Decades in Finance

Walthour brings more than 30 years of experience across investment banking, capital markets and traditional and alternative asset management.

Jacob Walthour Jr.’s Power100 initiative connects diverse professionals.

Before founding Blueprint, he served as vice chairman of product and business development within Cowen & Company’s investment-management division. In that role, he helped lead the firm’s efforts to seed and accelerate emerging alternative-investment managers.

His earlier career included senior positions at Cliffwater, Citadel Investment Group, Aksia, Moore Capital Management and Morgan Stanley Asset Management. He began his Wall Street career in Lehman Brothers’ investment-banking division in 1990.

The progression made Walthour one of relatively few African American professionals to reach the vice-chairman level at a major financial institution. Black Enterprise previously named him one of the Most Influential Blacks on Wall Street.

Walthour earned his bachelor’s degree, cum laude, from the Nelson A. Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy at the University at Albany.

Expanding Access to Capital

A central theme of Walthour’s leadership is that access to capital begins well before a business owner submits a loan application or enters an investor pitch meeting.

It begins with relationships, trust, visibility and proximity to opportunity.

Through Blueprint, Walthour works to connect entrepreneurs and investment managers with the networks and institutional resources required to compete. His approach challenges the assumption that capital is distributed purely according to performance and merit.

Qualified firms can remain overlooked when they lack introductions to influential investors, consultants and financial gatekeepers. Walthour’s work focuses on strengthening those connections and building a more inclusive investment ecosystem.

His 2026 Melanin Money 100 recognition specifically highlights his efforts to expand access to institutional investment opportunities, support underrepresented managers, develop financial talent and promote economic mobility.

Creating the Power100 Network

In 2020, Walthour founded Power100, an initiative designed to recognize and connect professionals and organizations shaping the investment-management industry.

The platform has grown into an influential network of asset allocators, investment managers, entrepreneurs and business leaders. Its programming creates opportunities for relationship-building while highlighting professionals who may not receive proportional recognition from the traditional financial establishment.

Power100 represents an extension of Walthour’s broader philosophy: opening a door matters, but building an enduring network capable of keeping that door open matters even more.

Leadership Beyond Blueprint

Walthour also serves on the Milken Institute’s Inclusive Capitalism Executive Council and the investment committee of Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropies, an organization managing approximately $9 billion.

His corporate and nonprofit board experience spans more than two decades. He currently serves as chairman of Parkview Capital Credit and Transportation Demand Management.

Walthour previously chaired EBONY Media Holdings, helping guide the historic Black media company through its restructuring and 2021 sale. His prior nonprofit service has included New York Cares, the New York Foundation for the Arts, the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights organization and the investment subcommittee of Girl Scouts of the USA.

For Walthour, wealth management is not simply about producing financial returns. It is about deciding who gains access to opportunity, which businesses receive the resources to grow and how capital can contribute to lasting economic participation.

His selection for the 2026 Melanin Money 100 recognizes both the scale of his financial career and the larger architecture he is building around ownership, investment access and generational wealth.
